Gabrovo
Gabrovo is situated along the two river banks of the Yantra river, at the northern foot of the Central Balkan range - in the immediate proximity of the geographical centre of Bulgaria. Long known for producing leatherwork and textiles, Gabrovo is the starting point for trips to Bozhentsi, or south to the ethnographic complex Etara and the nearby Sokolovo monastery. To the Bulgarians, Gabrovo is originally known as the home of the House of Humour and Satire. A Festival of Humour takes place in May every 2 years and the town becomes the centre of the International biennial of humour and satire in arts. The town's most impressive places to see include the Aprilov School, the Historical Museum, the 1835 Clocktower, the Baev Bridge.
The most magnificent place in Gabrovo is the architectural and ethnographical complex Etur - an unique open-air museum. The Bulgarian Renaissance atmosphere is preserved in the old workshops of traditional Bulgarian arts and craftsmanship. The visitors can watch the craftsmen doing everything by their own hands and by water-driven machinery. There are hotels, restaurants, and taverns available.
Gabrovo has become an attractive tourist centre. Municipality and the surrounding area are believed to be one of the most ecologically clean regions in Bulgaria. The rich flora and fauna are the ones to prove that.
