Yambol
The town of Yambol is situated in the eastern part of the Gornotrakiiska (Upper Thracian) Lowland, on the banks of the Toundzha River, shortly after the river curved to the south. It is 304 km east of Sofia. Yambol is one of the oldest Bulgarian towns and is currently a regional administrative centre.
The town is situated on the banks of the river Toundja. The territory of the area covers the middle part of the river valley, the “Bakadjitsi”, parts of the Svetiliiski, Derventski and Manastirski uplands. Mineral water springs are found near the village of Stefan Caradjovo, Straldja.

Yambol was founded in the antiqity. Some of the interesting cultural histhorical landmarks of the town are the St.George church with a fascinating iconostasis, the Roman baths, the Niddle Ages fortress, etc.
Yambol is particularly peaceful town, and tourists prefer it to other towns, for its freshness, unique and preserved nature, the athentic atmosphere which reminiscently reminds of the old days in the past.
One can visit the town museum of History in which there are more than 100 000 exhibits there; the Georgi Papazov Art Gallery with more than 3 000 works of dozens of eminent Bulgarian and foreign painters; the Astronomic Observatory and Planetarium, etc.
