Apriltsi

The population of Apriltsi, which is a small town, is about 4,700 people. Apriltsi is located 25 km south-east of Troyan, 58 km west of Gabrovo, 206 km to the south of Sofia, 300 km west of Varna. The town unites four villages as follows: Novo selo (New village), Zla reka, Vidima and Ostrets. The four villages were declared cities in 1976. The city is not a completely industrialized zone. The city is situated at the heart of the Stara planina mountain (The Balkan), forming a wonderful valley with two rivers - Vidima and Ostreshka.

Aprilzi has a beautiful view to the following summits of Stara planina (The Balkans): Kupenite, Maragidik, Roussalka, Urushka gramada, and Triglav. From the town of Apriltsi, one can have easy access to the highest summit of Stara planina (The Balkan) called Botev vrah, which is 2376 m high. Very close to the town there is a reserve and from there one can enjooy a nice view of rocks, observe the variety of animals, and shrubs. At the area called "Rai" (Paradise), a perfect view of the highest waterfall in Bulgaria called Raiskoto Praskalo – 124 m high – can be seen. At the south of the city another waterfall is situated called Vidimskoto Praskalo. In the area chalets and cabins are scattered all around this magnificent place.

The historical evidence and hills around Apriltsi city are a proof of an ancient Thrace village. Nearby the summit Ostrets remains from an ancient temple were discovered. In the past, there was a road linking south and north Bulgaria through the mountain via this city. In the year 1876, there was a revolution for the national liberation in this city. The revolution began in April and in memory of the victims of the revolution. And that is how the city aquired its name Apriltsi.

There is a monastery located in the city and it’s called Novoselski and 20 km from the city is another monastery called Batoshevski.

Apriltsi is famous for its recreation centres, hotels, accomodation, restaurants, etc.
