Triavna, Bulgaria, Bulgarian Museum Towns, TryavnaThe town of Triavna is located some 42 km southwest of Veliko Tarnovo, in the foot of Central Balkan Range. This town is mostly known for the skill and craftsmenship of its former builders, wood carvers and painters. Tryavna's narrow streets usually evoke certain memories of the 19th century and there are approximately 140 protected National-Revival buildings, placed in three connected parts of the old town, an architectural reserve. Some of the most popular masterpieces of the Revival architecture are the St Archangel Michael Church, the Clocktower, the Triavna Museum School of Painting, the Slaveykov Museum, the Daskalov House, the Museum of Icon-painting and Woodcarving with numerous highly expensive products of the 19th century Tryavna School.

Tryavna is one of the most preferred towns by tourists for its fresh mountain air and magnificent Renaissance architecture. The visitors of the town may enjoy their travelling to various villages and huts, scattered in the area.

The Tryavna masters and gain popularity in the building sphere of work, woodcarving and icon painting, which they try to make perfect and transform into art. That is how develops and flourishes the oldest Renaissance Art school in the Bulgarian land - the Tryavna school.

In the town of Tryavna and the surrounding area there are many places where one can find the fascinating beauty of the Renaissance period. One of these places are the architectural and historical ensembles The Old Square, P. R. Slaveikov street, Kachaunska neighbourhood and the place Tepavitsite, Skortsite village, the temples St. Archangel Michael and St. George, the following museums - Daskalov's house, Raykov's house, Angel Kunchev's and P. R. Slaveikov's houses, Staroto Shkolo (“The Old School” in Bulgarian) and the Museum of Icon Painting and Wood-carving, art exhibitions of Dimitur and Nikola Kazakovi, Nikolai Maistorov and Ivan Kolev.
